She Gets It from You...No, She Gets It from You...

At Elizabeth's 9-month appointment today, the doctor called her a "firecracker" and she couldn't have been more right. Lately, we've been struggling with Ms. Picky's eating habits. Remember that video of her scarfing rice cereal? Yeah, that lasted about two weeks. Then it was tight lips and "no no no" shakes of the head to anything mushy on a spoon. I gave up on solids for a while but then started worrying that she was missing out on vitamins or calories or who knows what so we've been trying all sorts of different foods. She mostly prefers things she can pick up with her fingers, but will take food on a spoon IF and ONLY IF it's not pureed and IF she's in the mood. Here's what our little gourmet will always eat:

Chickpeas (whole or the hummus variety)
Mangoes
Peaches
Cheerios
Pita bread
Baguettes
Wheat bread
Black beans
Ice cream
Yogurt (a little)

When she feels like it:

Avocados
Steamed carrots
Oatmeal (Apple Cinnamon, of course)

Anyone else notice an appalling lack of vegetables? Of course, anything that comes off Mommy or Daddy's plate (esp Thai food and lamb gyros) is greatly appreciated and more often than not, demanded by high-pitched shrieking.

E has also gotten three, count 'em, three teeth on top, which she loves to grind on her lower two teeth (shudder!) and has already mastered the art of tearing away at crusty bread.

She's also learned to use a sippy cup. Hooray!

And, finally, here is the video I promised to her G-Ma of the wonderful splash pool she sent us. Thanks, mom! The kids next door were nice enough to get Elizabeth to smile and clap for the camera.

When You're Having Fun

Whoops. Sorry it's been so long. I kept thinking I'd post once something significant happened. I guess life is what's been happening while I've been waiting. So here's what we've been up to:

Adam baptized Michael, a referral from his LDS cousins in Canada.

Elizabeth went on her first beach trip. She hated the ocean but loved eating sand.

She also reached new heights of popularity on our block. People I don't even know will say, "Hi, Elizabeth" as they walk by. This is Elias, her newest friend:

We learned that Elizabeth goes cuckoo for coco puffs whenever a dog is near. This picture does not begin to portray the shrieking, clapping, arm-flailing mania that overtakes Elizabeth at the approach of a furry friend. Good thing the next-door neighbors have 4+ in their house and more that come to visit.

Elizabeth mastered crawling.

Adam worked tons of overtime for a deadline and I was a major stress case as Girls' Camp approached. But now that both are over, we've been able to enjoy some family time.

At Central Park.

We partied at the first block party of Summer '09. I didn't bring out my camera until after NYFD had come and shut off the fire hydrant, so I didn't get any cool pictures. But we had a wonderful time. We bbq'd lamb shish-kabobs, Elizabeth was passed from neighbor to neighbor, and Adam even got to play some street ball.

It's been a busy four weeks. Time is flying so fast. I can't believe Elizabeth will be nine months in a week. I think that's what she's thinking here:

"Where did the time go?"
